Correct Use of Handpieces

Correct Use of Handpieces

2022-12-27 10:07:41

The working principle of the dental high-speed handpiece is driven by compressed air to drive the wind wheel to rotate at a high speed, thus driving the dental needle to complete the drilling and grinding of the teeth. According to the international standard of the product (ISO7785-1), a handpiece with a rotational speed ≥ 160000 rpm can be called a dental high-speed handpiece.

The handpiece is a very precise dental medical instrument. Whether it can be used and maintained correctly will directly affect the service life of the handpiece. This requires users of handpieces to master the correct use and maintenance of handpieces.

Correct use of handpieces

The right approach

As the bearing of the handpiece is very small, it cannot bear too much-cutting force, so the inching method should be used as far as possible, and the impact drill should not be used in a hurry. Incorrect methods can cause damage to the bearing in a very short time, especially when preparing the baked magnetic teeth.

Select the applicable needle

The needles used for handpieces with different functions, features, and rotating speeds have certain requirements. The needles that meet the rotating speed of the handpiece must be used. Do not use bent, shaking, worn, or too long or too short needles, especially mini handpieces. The total length of needles (including handles) cannot exceed 17mm. The needle diameter shall be between 1.592 and 1.6mm when using the gland clamping needle handset. If the needle diameter is less than 1.59mm, it will fly out due to insecure clamping, resulting in medical accidents.

Correct lubrication

First of all, qualified lubricating oil should be selected. At present, some low-cost "handpiece cleaning lubricants" on the market are made of low-quality industrial oils, which do great damage to handpiece bearings. Secondly, during normal use, add cleaning lubricating oil at least twice a day, and clean and lubricate the handpiece before and after sterilization.

Suitable intake pressure

If the air inlet pressure is too low, the speed and torque of the handset will be too low, which will affect normal operation. If the pressure is too high, the bearing will be damaged quickly. The correct air inlet pressure is 0.20 - 0.25MPa. The correct air inlet pressure refers to the pressure measured at the air inlet connector at the rear of the handpiece, not the pressure gauge pressure on the treatment table. There is a slight difference between the two. Due to the pipeline loss, the gauge pressure of the pressure gauge on the treatment table is greater than the inlet pressure of the handpiece.
